 let me talk about a span of 2 generations. my brother - when he was 5-7 years old was a computer and tv addict. my parents were strict in not buynig him computer games but low and behold ,he used to save up pocket money in methods no financial advisor could thinnk of and he'd say to mum and dad who very magnanimously though he'd saved half the money , pitch in the other half anf buy it for him . he was usually left with the maid for half the day , and if he watches tv or plays with this , he sits in a corner quitely reducing one job for her(but not her salary). my brther had no acdmic issues . he had always been the top student in school but such sddiction was a worry. it was not a good habbit . now it is my 5 year old who attends a kindergarten . i was worried as he could not pronounce some words clearly when he was little , but the way he pronounces some stupidly ridiculously complex names ,certianlly puts my worries to rest. to avoid the past , i tell him in different ways that i donot approve of him playing games like this . i want to be safe as opposed to sorry . i am at a wits end though . this rubbish is now online and the boy spemds his time infront of two i-boxes -the tv and the mordern one the computetr . i have resorted to disconnecting usb cables as part of my bed time routine just to avoid this from rehappening .

 actually there is no scientific evidence to show that violent media will increase a child's tendancy to be violent. the best thing for you to do is to play computer games with your child, or at least discuss with them while they are playing. of course limit time, like you would time in front of the tv or excessive time spent doing any one thing. all things in moderation. many computer and video games are not only non-violent, but also educational, though they are not always labelled in this way. they can also be social, if you get your child into a game that can be played online with friends then it can be very good for them to learn how to interact with other people on the internet, and you will be able to play with your child as well! many online computer games are easy to learn, so don't be afraid. if you have no idea how to judge whether a computer game is appropriate for your child's age group, there are many resources on the internet that you can ask for help, e.g. gamerdad.
